The Head Teacher of this County Durham Primary School invited us to create some ideas and concepts to promote their school values to pupils, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.
We wanted to develop something simple but effective that all pupils, regardless of age and culture, would be able to understand and remember.
The result was simple – RED ROSE
R – Respect
E – Excellence
D – Determination
R – Responsibility
O – Opportunity
S – Support
E – Equality

We have applied it to various collateral including stationery, cultural passport, pupil recognition postcards, signage and the school prospectus.

Guildford Brough Council serves 145,000 residents across the Borough of Guildford in Surrey.
The council’s 20PP magazine, ‘Contact Point’ is produced three times per year and 5,500 copies are printed and delivered to every Guildford Borough Council tenant address.
The magazine provides a communications platform for the council to keep tenants informed and regularly up to date with information, which tenants welcome.
Our brief is to provide an informative, attractive and interesting magazine that will engage tenants. We are constantly improving the design and content of each publication.

Contact Point is informative and user-friendly and tenants have commented they like to receive the magazine because it informs them of events and activities in their area – the magazine compliments the council’s other channels of communication and is another platform to get information out about their community.
The council’s partners also recognise the value that Contact Point provides and regularly send information to be included.
The magazine has its own distinct brand and identity but clearly aligns with the council’s overarching brand identity. This distinctive design has also been implemented across other marketing collateral such as flyers and posters.
Our role is to co-ordinate and facilitate the production of each issue from planning through to copywriting and design. We also liaise with the council’s internal print team and accessibility officer.
Each issue includes tips and advice, poems, letters, children’s quizzes and photo competitions which improve the publication and make it even more engaging. We are never short of stories or articles from tenants!
We introduced a ‘tenant story’ stamp which is incorporated into articles submitted by tenants. We also incorporate good quality photos, lots of colour, easy to understand text and avoid ‘corporate speak’.
As part of a 4-year design services framework with Sunderland City Council, we were asked to support our client to create a series of tender documents for school catering contracts.
Following an initial brief, we designed the required documents to high quality and on time. They were successful and awarded the contracts.
We also supported the council by designing counter signage and menus in the relevant schools(s) and created presentation templates for future tenders. As part of our service, we also liaised directly with their chosen printers to ensure all artwork was correctly set up and available to print.

Entering awards is an ideal way to raise your profile and shout about your achievements whether local, regional or national.
We’ve drafted a whole host of submissions for our clients over the years but, we are particularly proud of the submissions we drafted for a couple of our construction clients.
For client ENGIE (now Equans), we drafted a submission for the Gateshead Innovation Village, in partnership with Home Group, in the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Social Impact North East Awards 2020. The scheme won the residential category of North East regional awards and then went on to win the residential category award in the national finals in London.

Also for the same awards, we drafted a submission for the Helix District Energy Centre in Newcastle in the Infrastructure category, which was also shortlisted and won the regional North East awards.
For Esh Construction, we drafted three award submissions in the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2021 for their Lady Ida Lodge Extra Care scheme. We drafted submissions in the Conservation and Regeneration, Project of the Year and Client of the Year categories. All three submissions were shortlisted and two (Conservation and Regeneration and Client of the Year) won their respective categories and went onto the finals in London.

We cannot stress the importance of planning awards in advance. They can be very time-consuming to write and it is important to fulfil the award criteria and look carefully to see what the judges will be looking for. This is where we can help.
We have been successful in entering awards on behalf of our clients. Our role is to help you raise your profile and to write award submissions that make you ‘stand out from the crowd’. The key to writing successful award submissions is to write and present it in a way that will grab the judge’s attention.
Our role is to write a submission that (fingers crossed) will get shortlisted. We can’t affect the final result because it depends on what your project or scheme is competing against in the final.
It’s a great feeling though when the submissions we write and submit on behalf of our clients get shortlisted – even better if they win!
If you have a project, campaign or development you are proud of and want to shout about it, we’d love to hear from you.
